DRAYTON MANOR HISTORYThe Phoenix issues for 1965 and 1966 included a number of extracts from the first 6 issues of the school magazine published between 1933 and 1936. When building work took place in the early 1960s (resulting in the new Gym, Music Room, etc), workmen were knocking down the walls of the old school library which divided it from a multiplicity of miscellaneous rooms and corridors. The librarians discovered a hoarde of old "Phoenix" magazines dating back to isue number 1 (Summer 1933). Those magazines provided the basis of historical content for a "Thirty Years Ago" feature in the issues of 1965 and 1966. A number of those items are reproduced on this web site as part of the historical background to Drayton Manor. |
